PNOA Quarterly Newsletter – Q3 2025 (July–September)

As summer’s warmth gave way to autumn’s golden hues, the PNOA community dove into the Pacific Northwest’s diverse terrains with unyielding spirit, navigating waterways, summits, and cycles through ever-shifting seasons. From heart-pounding grinds and island spins to immersive backpacking odysseys and river drifts, Q3 embodied our love for exploration and camaraderie. We delivered over 25 events, engaging more than 300 adventurers who crafted enduring tales and fortified connections. Tremendous thanks to our volunteer leaders and participants for sparking these safe, exhilarating escapades!

July

•  July 2: Grouse Grind Day Hike led by Patrick – 4 participants. Tackle “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster,” a brutal 2.9 km steep ascent with 853 m elevation gain, culminating in sweeping Vancouver panoramas from Grouse Mountain’s peak.

• July 2, 3: Paddling Training led by Michael Lin – total 12 participants.

•  July 4: Buntzen Lake Sup led by Paul – 8 participants.

•  July 5: Bowen Island Cycling Adventure led by Tim, Michael, and James Chen – 14 participants. Pedal hilly, narrow country roads through lush forests and coastal shores, uncovering Bowen Island’s hidden gems on a scenic loop.

• July 18–20: Garibaldi Traverse Backpacking led by Jane Zhao and Lao Wan – 11 participants. Embark on a multi-day ridge and glacier journey through Garibaldi Provincial Park, marveling at turquoise lakes and boundless alpine vistas.

• July 30: Hannegan Peak Day Hike led by Patrick – 11 participants. Traverse a moderate ridge to the pass, blooming with wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and glacier-framed North Cascades scenery.

• August 1: Indian Arm Kayak Tour led by Jane Zhao – 10 participants.

 August 2: Alberta Bike Cycling And Car Camping Tour led by Timothy Chen and Lisa Peng – 23 participants.

• August 3: Alouette River Paddling led by Paul Tan – 14 participants.

 August 3: Yak-Nak Peaks Hike led by Yuki, Laowan and Patrick – 13 participants. Follow well-marked trails on this picturesque traverse in Golden Ears, with sunny summit panoramas.

• August 8–10: Garibaldi Traverse Backpacking led by Paul and Yolanda – 18 participants. A legendary multi-day trek along endless ridges and glaciers in Garibaldi Park, blending solitude with stunning, uninterrupted horizons.

• August 10: Watersprite Lake Hike led by Patrick Ni – 14 participants.

• Aug 12: Deer lake SUP Training led by Michael Lin -7 participants.

• Aug 16: Ptarmigan Ridge Trail Hike led by Laowan and Yuki – 11 participants.

• Aug 17: Fraser Valley Bike Ride Led by Timothy Chen – 6 aprticipants.

• August 22: Elgin Heritage Park SUP Paddling led by Michael Lin – 7 participants.

• August 23: Golden Ears Summit Trail Hike led by Allan and Hugh Li – 9 participants.

• August 23: Rolley Lake Park SUP Paddling led by Michael Lin -11 participants.

• August 23: Sea To Summit Hike led by Timothy Chen and Lisa Peng – 16 participants. Ascend 6.5 km from sea level to 885 m on this intermediate climb, overlooking dramatic Howe Sound fjords and coastal peaks.

• Aug 30: Fraser Valley Bike Ride led by Timothy Chen – 13 participants.

• Aug 30: Goat Ridge Day Hike led by Laowan – 8 participants.

• August 31: St. Mark’s Summit Day Hike led by Timothy Chen and Lisa Peng – 17 participants. Follow the Howe Sound Crest Trail for 10.5 km of gravel paths turning to rocky edges, unveiling sheer drops and infinite ocean vistas.

September

• September 1: Harrison River Paddle led by Paul, Michael, and Rick – 15 participants. An 18 km downstream adventure for seasoned paddlers, weaving through quick flows past petroglyph cliffs, salmon spawning grounds, and eagle congregations in Harrison’s deep valley—prime for fall colors and wildlife.

• September 1: Overlord Mountain Hike led by Yuki, Lao Wan, and Patrick – 5 participants. A demanding 41 km push via Singing Pass with 2,636 m gain and moderate scrambling, summiting amid Russet Lake’s rewards and epic Garibaldi vistas.

• September 5–7: Elfin Lakes Backpacking Adventure led by Tim and Lisa – 19 participants. A 3-day immersion in Garibaldi Provincial Park, covering 22 km round-trip with 600 m elevation gain to reach alpine meadows, the historic Elfin Lakes Chalet, and optional side hikes to The Gargoyles for sweeping mountain panoramas.

• September 6: Golden Ears Park SUP Paddling led by Michael – 19 participants. A relaxed 5 km paddle from South Beach to Gold Creek, ideal for experienced boarders seeking gentle currents and provincial park serenity.

• September 7: Cultus Lake Cycling Challenge led by Tim – 15 participants. Tackle a full-day 132 km loop with 650 m elevation, circling the lake’s shores under clear skies from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

• September 9–14 and 21-24: Mount Assiniboine Backpacking Adventure led by Yuki and Victor Guo – total 14 participants. A 3-day odyssey to Lake Magog, featuring day hikes to turquoise Cerulean Lake, the Nublet, and Wonder Peak amid the “Matterhorn of the Rockies.”

• Sep 13: Buntzen Lake Multi-Events led by Paul – 51 participants.

• Sep 20: Barnet Marine Park SUP Paddling led by Michael Lin- 12 participants.

• Sep 21: Whistler Blackcomb Trail Hike led by Sue – 17 participants.

• September 28- Oct 01 Enchantment Traverse Backpacking Tour led by Yuki and Laowan. Total 8 participants.

Safety Spotlight: BC Outdoor Essentials

Inspired by BC Parks and AdventureSmart, a timely nudge for fall outings:

•  Plan Ahead: Consult BC Parks for trail alerts and weather; share plans via the AdventureSmart app.

•  Gear Up with the 10 Essentials: Navigation, first aid, layers, bear spray—purify backcountry water against giardia.

•  Wildlife Alert: Group travel with noise, secure attractants in bear-proof storage, report to RAPP (1-877-952-7277). Back away from bears calmly; face cougars aggressively if charged.

•  Weather Savvy: Layer for rapid changes; hug trails to sidestep hypothermia or slips.

太平洋西北户外协会季度通讯 – 2025年第三季度(7月–9月)

随着夏日的温暖让位于秋日的金黄叶色,PNOA社区以不屈的精神投入太平洋西北的多变地形,在不断变化的季节中穿梭水道、山巅与自行车道。从令人心跳加速的攀登和岛屿骑行,到沉浸式的背包史诗与河上漂流,第三季度体现了我们对探索与友谊的热爱。我们举办了超过25场活动,吸引了300多位冒险者,他们铸就了永恒故事并强化了联结。衷心感谢我们的志愿领队和参与者,为这些安全、激动人心的出行点燃火花!

7月

•  7月2日:Patrick带领的Grouse Grind一日徒步——4人参加。挑战“大自然的阶梯大师”,一段长达2.9公里、海拔上升853米的陡峭山路,最终从Grouse Mountain山顶俯瞰温哥华全景。

•  7月5日:Tim、Michael和James Chen带领的Bowen岛自行车探险——14人参加。沿着丘陵起伏的乡村道路,穿过茂密的森林和海岸,在风景优美的环线上探索Bowen岛隐藏的瑰宝。

•  7月30日:汉尼根峰单日徒步 领队:Patrick – 11位参与者。穿越中等岭线至山口,野花盛开、瀑布倾泻、北喀斯喀特冰川景观环绕。

•  7月31日巴尼特海洋公园 SUP 练习由 Michael Lin 和 Yolanda 带领 – 7 名参与者。

• 8月1日:Jane Zhao带领的印第安臂皮划艇之旅,10人参加。

• 8月2日:Timothy Chen和Lisa Peng带领的阿尔伯塔自行车骑行及汽车露营之旅,23人参加。

• 8月3日:Paul Tan带领的云雀河泛舟之旅,14人参加。

• 8月3日:Yak-Nak峰徒步 领队:Yuki、Laowan和Patrick带领的雅克-纳克峰徒步之旅,13人参加。沿着这条风景如画的黄金耳朵山路,沿着路标清晰的小径前行,欣赏阳光明媚的山顶全景。

•  8月8–10日:加里巴尔迪穿越背包旅行 领队:Paul 和 Yolanda – 18位参与者。加里巴尔迪公园传奇多日跋涉,沿无尽岭线与冰川,融合孤寂与壮丽地平线。

• 8月10日:Patrick Ni带领的Watersprite湖徒步,14人参加。

• 8月12日:Michael Lin带领的Deer湖SUP训练,7人参加。

• 8月16日:Laowan和Yuki带领的Ptarmigan Ridge Trail徒步,11人参加。

• 8月30日:弗雷泽河谷自行车骑行,由Timothy Chen带领,13人参加。

• 8月30日:由laowan带领的山羊岭徒步,8人参加。

• 8月31日:由Timothy Chen和Lisa Peng带领的圣马克峰顶一日徒步,17人参加。沿着豪湾山脊步道,沿着10.5公里的碎石路蜿蜒而上,最终到达岩石边缘,欣赏陡峭的悬崖和一望无际的海景。

9月

•  9月1日:哈里森河桨板漂流 领队:Paul、Michael 和 Rick – 15位参与者。资深桨手的18公里顺流冒险,穿越急流,途经岩画悬崖、鲑鱼产卵地与鹰群聚集的哈里森深谷——秋色与野生动物最佳时节。

•  9月1日:霸主山徒步 领队:Yuki、Lao Wan 和 Patrick – 5位参与者。通过唱歌通道的苛求41公里推进,海拔增2636米与中等攀登,以锈湖回报与加里巴尔迪史诗景观。

•  9 月 5 日至 7 日:由 Tim 和 Lisa 带领的 Elfin Lakes 背包旅行探险——19 名参与者。在加里波第省立公园进行为期 3 天的深度游,往返 22 公里,海拔上升 600 米,到达高山草甸、历史悠久的 Elfin Lakes Chalet,并可选择徒步前往 The Gargoyles 欣赏壮丽的山景。

•  9月6日:金耳朵公园SUP漂流 领队:Michael – 10位参与者。从南滩至金溪的轻松5公里桨板,适合有经验的板手,追寻省级公园的温柔水流与宁静。

•  9月7日:Cultus湖自行车挑战 领队:Tim – 15位参与者。全天132公里环线,海拔爬升650米,从上午8:30至下午5:30环绕湖岸晴空骑行。

•  9月9–14/21-24日:阿西尼博因山背包旅行探险 领队:Yuki, Victor Guo – 14位参与者。3天史诗至马戈湖,包含天青湖、努布峰与奇观峰日间徒步,环绕“洛矶山脉的马特宏峰”。

• 9月13日:邦岑湖多项活动,由Paul领导 – 51名参与者。

• 9月20日:巴内特海洋公园SUP桨板划行,由Michael Lin领导 – 12名参与者。

• 9月21日:惠斯勒黑梳山步道徒步,由Sue领导 – 17名参与者。

• 9月28日 – 10月1日:恩昌特曼特穿越背包旅行团,由Yuki和Laowan领导。总共8名参与者。

受BC Parks与AdventureSmart启发,秋季出行及时提醒:

•  提前规划:查阅BC Parks小径警报与天气;通过AdventureSmart app分享计划。

•  装备10件必需:导航、急救、多层衣物、熊喷雾——净化野外水源防贾第虫。

•  野生动物警戒:团体中喧闹前行,食物存于防熊容器,报告至RAPP(1-877-952-7277)。遇熊冷静后退;遇美洲狮若被袭则强势反击。

•  天气机敏:为快速变化多层着装;紧跟小径避低温症或滑倒。

保持警惕,安全户外!

      Highlights#1 这次活动PNOA由经验丰富的白水先生担纲领队和通盘指挥, 他周密的部署和事无巨细的定制计划,从路线到设备配备堪称精细完美, 为了防止有人掉队失联, 每人配备一部对讲机以防万一。 21位勇士手脚并用,行走在巨岩缝隙间,从早上7点开始攀爬,用时7个多小时。 路线上我们反其道而行之,从Peak3 – Peak 2- Peak 1, 避开行人密集,道路容易阻塞的天梯和铁链,其次人员分为快队和慢队, 有人开路有人断后, 白水先生穿插其中,每个转弯点都有人用对讲机提醒,没有错过一个view point! 登上第三峰眺望第一峰和第二峰,看到上面的人非常渺小, 手机需要个横屏·。应该说第三峰最容易, 不用爬梯或铁链, 山头有一汪清水, 倒影着蓝天白云,和我们team的五颜六色的着装,大家互相拍照,有队友还拿出户外椅端坐在高耸入云的山尖尖,凹造型摆拍, 好不惬意啊。 第二峰开始难度加大, 山石嶙峋,又陡又窄岩壁,有几段需要拉铁链爬铁梯, 然而最难的登顶第一峰, 经过千万年的冰河洗刷,很多岩石都成了一块光溜溜的岩壁, 几乎垂直于地面, 尤其是直上直下的云梯真的是考验胆儿的, 光秃秃的山顶, 四周毫无防护十分陡峭近于绝壁, 登上云梯我告诉我自己哦我今天到底是干了件多么疯狂的事情啊。。。 在大家全部登顶的那一刻, 胜利的喜悦溢于言表, 站在山巅上我们team大摄影师为大家留下英雄般的合影,瑜伽高手尽兴表演, 段子手妙语涟涟,石壁,溪流,高耸入云的劲松, 阳光透过树叶间隙洒向人间, 照在身上暖洋洋的, 这是人的内心与大自然的共振, 可遇不可求。。。 世界之美在于探险, 总有身体·在地狱,眼睛在天堂的征服感, 毕竟人是需要走出舒服区有一点探险的勇气, 上高路远看世界, 也是找自己。 感谢领队白水先生, 感谢队友的无私相助互相关照,感恩王大摄影师慷慨为大家拍照, 特别是男队员谦虚地留在后面断后,在每个路口等待和提醒大家,他们是大海,Roy,Romeo,Tony, Raymond。。。呵呵 山河远阔, 人间值得, 真好
