PNOA Overlord Mountain Hike – A 41km Adventure

The current image has no alternative text. The file name is: IMG_6297-scaled.jpeg

On September 1, 2025, five adventurous souls set out for an epic journey to conquer the Overlord Mountain via the Singing Pass to Russet Lake route in Whistler, British Columbia. This 41km hike, with a staggering elevation gain of 2,500 meters, was a test of endurance, teamwork, and sheer determination. Despite the challenges, the sunny weather, gentle breeze, and stunning alpine scenery made it an unforgettable experience.

The Journey Begins

We started our hike from Whistler, following the well-maintained trail toward Singing Pass. The path was clear, winding through lush forests and offering glimpses of the surrounding peaks. Just before reaching Singing Pass, we hit the clearly marked junction to Russet Lake. This section of the trail was beautifully graded, making the initial ascent manageable and enjoyable. The trail to Russet Lake offered multiple water sources, perfect for refilling our bottles and staying hydrated.

From Russet Lake to the Summit

Upon reaching the serene Russet Lake, we took a moment to soak in the breathtaking views before continuing our ascent. From the lake, we followed a faint rib southward, passing through a scenic bowl beneath the majestic Overlord Glacier. The terrain opened up to a broad ridge, which we followed eastward over Whirlwind Peak. The ridge became more defined as we approached Refuse Pinnacle, a striking landmark on the route. The final push to Overlord Mountain’s summit was a thrilling climb along a rugged ridge, rewarding us with panoramic views of the Coast Mountains.

Four of our five participants reached the summit, celebrating a hard-earned victory. The fifth, though not summiting, showed incredible spirit by supporting the team throughout the journey.

A Long but Rewarding Day

Starting later than planned, our hike stretched into the evening, with the group returning to the car at 10:30 PM—nearly 15 hours after we began. The long day tested our stamina, but the clear skies and refreshing breeze kept our spirits high. The trail’s beauty, from the tranquil Russet Lake to the dramatic ridges, made every step worthwhile.

Tips for Future Hikers

For anyone planning to tackle this challenging hike, here are some tips based on our experience:

•  Pack Extra Fuel: Bring plenty of food, energy bars, gels, and electrolyte replacements like salt sticks to keep your energy up.

•  Start Early: A 15-hour hike means you’ll want to hit the trail early to avoid hiking in the dark.

•  Stay Hydrated: Take advantage of the water sources along Singing Pass to refill your bottles.

•  Gear Up: Wear sturdy boots, bring layers for changing weather, and pack a headlamp for late finishes.

Join Us for the Next Adventure!

This hike was a reminder of why we love exploring the mountains—pushing our limits, sharing laughs, and soaking in nature’s beauty. We hike safely, happily, and as a team, and we’d love for you to join us on our next adventure. Lace up your boots, pack your enthusiasm, and let’s hit the trails together!

PNOA Overlord

    Rockwall BP
