PNOA Second Quarter Newsletter 2024

Time flies when we’re having fun.

Club News and Recent Events:

 April:

6-7: Happy Skiing Trip in Whistler led by Timothy. This trip aimed to raise awareness of the risks associated with skiing and snowboarding, ensuring participants had a safe and enjoyable experience.

13: Chief 1, 2, 3 Peak Day hiking led by White Water. His meticulous planning and attention to detail made the hike perfect from route to equipment.

26-28: Port Renfrew Fishing, Crabbing and Hiking Trip led by Raymond.

27-28: Mt. Baker backpacking trip led by White Water, emphasizing the importance of sunburn prevention.

May:

Bottles and Cans Fundraising Campaign: The Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) partnered with Regional Recycling to launch this campaign to turn waste into treasure and raise funds to better serve members.

11: Eagle Bluffs Day Hike led by Timothy, attended by many new friends.

11/12: Mt. Baker backpacking with White Water. Celebrating Mother’s Day in a tent made it special.

5/11/12: Kayaking Training led by Suzey. Kayaking engages your body in a laidback workout amid sublime scenery.

12: Wedgemount Lake and Ice Cave day Hike with Li Wan and Yuki. This challenging hike covers 15.43 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1,413 meters. Despite the challenges of late-season snow conditions and terrain, all members made it to the Ice Cave.

13: Joffre Lakes Day Hike led by William. Joffre Lakes Park is always a popular spot.

18/19/20: Canoeing Training led by Bing Xie. Canoeing calms the mind, strengthens muscles, and improves overall well-being.

20: Bowen Island Cycling and day hike trip with Jane Zhao and Timothy. The trip included a beautiful ferry ride and a mix of gravel and road riding to explore the island.

June:

1: BC Trail Day Cleanup Elfin Lakes Trail with Li Wan and Timothy. Participants spent a day trimming brushes on Diamond Head Road, in collaboration with Friends of Garibaldi Park and Garibaldi Park rangers. See featured image on the top.

7/8/9: Pitt Lake Canoeing trip led by Suzey.

8: Panorama Ridge day hike led by White Water and Allan. Panorama Ridge offers some of the most scenic views in Garibaldi Provincial Park, in particular when lake ice melts.

15/16: Canoe Training phase II. This training focused on efficient paddling and safety.

22: Three hikes took place on this day: Elfin Lake hike with Victor, Alice Lake hike with Timothy, and Goat Ridge hike with Allan.

29: Annual Social Gathering led by Roy. See our blog at: https://pnoa.ca/pnoa-social-gathering-ended-with-a-bang/

30 and July 1: Kayak Day trip with Suzey, focusing on practice.

July 1: Windy Joe Mountain trail at Manning Park led by Paul. This hike was a great introduction to Manning Provincial Park, and everyone had fun!

August 17- 24: Yellow Stone Cycling plus Car Camping with Timothy and Li Wan.

September, 21-29: Lake O’Hara Skoki Loop Backpacking trip with Timothy, Li Wan and Paul.

    共同骑行,点亮希望——PNOA GCC 2024队伍的卓越成就

    在2024年的Great Cycle Challenge活动中,PNOA GCC 2024队伍取得了令人瞩目的成就。我们设定了5000公里的骑行目标,结果总骑行距离达到了惊人的9621公里,几乎是原计划的两倍。此外,我们的募捐目标同样是5000元,最终筹集到了8579元善款,这笔款项将用于支持SickKids基金会,帮助儿童癌症的研究和治疗。 今年,共有17名队员参与了这项挑战,其中有8名队员是第一次参与。特别值得一提的是,我们队伍中最年轻的成员——8岁的Zoe和5岁的Avi姐弟俩。Zoe在第二年参加挑战,骑行了554.1公里,募捐了1507元善款。弟弟Avi首次参与,完成了82公里的骑行,并筹集了306元。他们的勇气和努力深深激励了其他队员,展现了年轻一代的无限潜力。 同时,团队中的资深骑手老齐更是发挥了重要作用,他独自骑行了2850.9公里,为团队的成功贡献了巨大力量。他的坚持和毅力为所有队员树立了榜样,激励着大家共同追求目标。 通过这次挑战,PNOA GCC 2024队伍不仅在骑行和募捐上超越了预期,更重要的是提高了社会对儿童癌症的关注。我们明白,每一位队员的努力都在为那些需要帮助的孩子们点燃希望之光。 展望未来,我们将继续参加明年的挑战,为更多的孩子们贡献力量,再创佳绩!

    Mt Seymour 雪地野营

    今年冬天是一个暖冬,迟迟未能降雪。户外朋友圈里都在讨论着如何退滑雪季票,很理直气壮的理由:因病要求退票!什么病?没雪滑抑郁了,这必须算病啊。。。😂😂 新年的第一个周末,今冬的初雪终于姗姗来迟。一夜之间青山白头,立刻点燃了温村无数雪友的激情。于是乎全城沸腾,有人携板执杖,驰骋雪道;有人呼朋唤友,踏雪登高;还有少数几位和我们一样,背起沉甸甸的背包,去雪地野营,看日落日出,享彻夜逍遥。 雪地野营于我们而言是第一次,领导听说之后也兴致盎然的表示要”参加“。这个”参加“的意思就是领导会亲自上山住帐篷里,而我则需要兼职挑夫,背着双份的地垫睡袋和各类补给上山😂😂。好在路途不远,上山途中更有美景随处可见,赏心悦目。有蔚蓝天空下的雪压青松,有白云环绕着的远山如黛,还有落日余晖在雪堆上映射出的点点如金沙闪烁。 就这样一行五人轻松惬意的边走边赏,悠哉悠哉的来到野营地。此时正好是日落时分,落日、晚霞、雪山、云海,还有日落之后粉色和蓝色的辉光云霞(alpenglow),一切美景都如同想象中的梦幻、温暖且美好。 太阳彻底下山之后,我们就开始平整雪地,搭设帐篷。然后挖坑做饭,煮雪烹茶。山友老胡还特意带了红酒为大家佐餐,我们则奉献了自制的牛肉干。坐在雪地上,抬头可见满天繁星,清冷月牙,俯首遥看万家灯光,烟火尘世。四周美得寂静,也美得令人恍惚。 上山一次不容易,我们的计划中不仅仅第一晚要看日落,还有第二天早上的日出。次日清晨的山顶,雾气渐渐弥漫起来,逐渐将四周的山头都藏匿其中。就在我们低声叹息以为无缘日出的时候,大自然给我们展现了另外一种朦胧的日出之美。太阳升起时的霞光穿透雾气,时隐时现。在不断流动、瞬息万变的雾气中,忽而看云海翻滚可见粉色朝霞,忽而有山林浮现如同海市蜃楼。我们就一直沉浸在不断的惊喜之中,感叹着造化的神奇。 日落日出都如愿欣赏到了。在日落与日出之间则是寂冷的夜。哪怕有最美味的红酒,最滚烫的姜茶,最飘香的乌龙,和最温暖的咖啡,也还是挡不住大自然无言的高冷。冷就一个字,辗转千万次。零下九度的清冷月夜,山顶万籁俱寂,微风无雪,即使全副武装也无法在帐篷外多待片刻。只能早早钻入睡袋,反复拷问着身为雪地野营小白的自己:“能熬过今晚吗?”,最后才沉沉睡去。当清晨泠冽的空气把我唤醒时,我第一个念头就是“自然很美好,生活很美好!”🤣🤣 部分照片 credit to PNOA:Gloria,花花,老胡
