PNOA Outdoor Safety at Vancouver

🌲 Outdoor Safety Workshop Recap: Sunshine, Skills & Community

After several days of rain, November 2, 2025, surprised us with a brilliant morning sun—just in time for our Outdoor Safety Workshop. Eleven enthusiastic participants gathered to learn, share, and connect over a shared love for the outdoors.

Hosted by our local outdoor club, the event was designed to equip adventurers with essential safety knowledge across land, water, and wheels. The day began with a warm welcome and coffee, followed by a thoughtful presentation from Li, PNOA co-founder. Li spoke passionately about why safety matters in every outdoor activity, emphasizing preparation essentials like route planning, gear checks, and emergency protocols. Her insights set the tone for a day rooted in awareness and responsibility.

Next, we dove into water safety with Paul, a certified Paddle Canada Sea Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard instructor. Drawing from years of experience, Paul guided us through risk management strategies, condition assessment techniques, and decision-making tools tailored for paddlers. His session was both practical and eye-opening, especially for those planning spring and summer water adventures.

The highlight of the workshop was James’s engaging session on cycling safety and bike maintenance. A seasoned cyclist with professional certification, James delivered a comprehensive overview of cycling basics, safety gear, and traffic awareness. He also led a hands-on demo covering bike maintenance essentials—checking tire pressure, adjusting brakes, and chain lubrication. Participants gathered around, asked questions, and even tried a few techniques themselves.

Throughout the day, the atmosphere was vibrant and collaborative. Attendees shared stories, swapped tips, and made plans for future outings. The mix of expert-led sessions and peer interaction made the workshop not only informative but deeply enriching.

As the sun began to dip and the final questions were answered, we wrapped up with a renewed sense of confidence and community. Whether hiking, paddling, or cycling, we left with the tools and mindset to stay safe—and the connections to keep exploring together.

Stay tuned for our next event, and until then, adventure smart and stay safe!

How do you measure tread depth on your tires?
