PNOA Panorama Ridge via Helm Creek Day Hike

June 14, 2026
On June 14, 2026, a small but determined PNOA team set out to tackle the iconic Panorama Ridge via Helm Creek Trail in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Led by Patrick Ni, the group consisted of five participants. Although the final number was smaller than originally registered due to illness and personal commitments, the enthusiasm and spirit of adventure remained strong.
The weather was beautiful throughout the day, with clear skies and warm temperatures. While the sunshine rewarded us with spectacular views, the heat also added an extra layer of challenge to this demanding hike. Covering approximately 31 kilometers with about 1,600 meters of elevation gain, the route tested both endurance and determination.
Snow began appearing shortly after Helm Creek Campground and remained a constant companion on the way to Panorama Ridge. Along the trail, hikers crossed several sections with flowing water and wet terrain, adding variety and excitement to the journey.
The reward at the top was unforgettable. Panorama Ridge lived up to its reputation, offering breathtaking views of rugged mountains, sparkling alpine lakes, lingering snowfields, and the majestic silhouette of Black Tusk standing proudly in the distance. The scenery reminded us once again why this destination is considered one of the most spectacular hikes in British Columbia.
Despite the long distance and challenging conditions, everyone completed the hike with smiles and a sense of accomplishment. The shared experience, beautiful landscapes, and supportive team spirit made for a truly memorable day in the mountains.
Tips for Future Hikers
- Start early to allow plenty of time for the long route.
- Carry sufficient water, or bring a water filter since water sources are available along much of the trail.
- Dress in layers to adapt to changing mountain conditions.
- Bring sunscreen and sunglasses for sun exposure, especially on snow-covered sections.
- Pack microspikes if snow conditions are present.
- Consider electrolyte drink tablets to help stay hydrated during hot weather.
A special thank you to Patrick Ni for leading this adventure and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
The trail may end at the parking lot, but the memories of Panorama Ridge will continue to inspire future journeys. We look forward to seeing everyone on the next adventure.
