Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) First Quarter 2025 Newsletter

Dear PNOA Members,

As we wrap up the first quarter of 2025, we want to extend our gratitude to all members who participated in our winter and early spring adventures. From exhilarating ski trips to challenging snowshoe treks, and even our annual general meeting (AGM), Q1 was filled with camaraderie, skill-building, and unforgettable experiences.

Here’s a recap of our activities from January to March 2025:

January 2025

January 1 – Sea to Summit Hiking

To kick off the new year, a group of ten members tackled the Sea to Summit trail led by Paul, a challenging but rewarding hike with spectacular coastal views. This was a great way to start 2025 on an active note!

January 5 – Eagle Bluffs Snowshoeing

Twelve participants enjoyed a beautiful day of snowshoeing to Eagle Bluffs led by White Water, where they were rewarded with panoramic views of Vancouver, Howe Sound, and beyond.

January 11 – First Aid and CPR Training

PNOA hosted a hands-on First Aid and CPR training session for ten members led by Victor Guo. Learning essential life-saving skills is crucial for our outdoor adventures, and we appreciate everyone’s dedication to safety.

January 12 – St. Mark’s Summit Winter Hike

Despite cold temperatures and deep snow, six members made their way to St. Mark’s Summit led by Jane Zhao and Angela Zhang . The clear skies provided stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

January 18-26 – Multi-Resort Skiing Trip

One of our most anticipated trips of the season! This nine-day adventure took eighteen PNOA members to multiple ski resorts, where they enjoyed fresh powder, thrilling slopes, and après-ski fun. Thanks to our trip leaders Timothy and Lisa for making this a seamless experience!

January 19 – Mt. Baker Hut and Snowshoeing

Five members embarked on a two-day adventure to Mt. Baker, combining a cozy overnight hut stay with an exciting snowshoe trek led by White Water.

January 25 – St. Mark’s Summit Hike

Seven adventurers returned to St. Mark’s Summit for another winter ascent, making the most of the crisp, clear weather.

February 2025

February 2 – Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Our AGM was a huge success, with 44 members attending to discuss club goals, upcoming events, and community initiatives. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

February 8 – Vantage Peak Snowshoeing

Three adventurous members took on Vantage Peak, braving steep climbs and deep snow for an unforgettable backcountry experience.

February 15 – Avalanche Skills Training (AST1)

Safety in the backcountry is a top priority! Several members participated in AST1 certification training, learning essential avalanche awareness and rescue techniques.

February 15-25 – Japan Hakuba Valley Skiing & Snowboarding Trip

A group of 16 PNOA members traveled to Japan’s renowned Hakuba Valley for ten days of incredible skiing and snowboarding. From deep powder to authentic Japanese cuisine, this was truly a trip to remember and thanks to our leaders Timothy and Lisa.

February 26 – Brunswick Mountain Snowshoeing

Only the most determined hikers like took on Brunswick Mountain in deep winter conditions. One brave participant Jerry Cui completed the challenging trek.

March 1 – Dragon Boating

March 2025

As the weather started to warm up, 18 members gathered for an exciting dragon boating session. This was a fantastic way to transition from winter sports to water activities!

March 2 – Brunswick Mountain Snowshoeing (Again!)

Brunswick Mountain saw another winter attempt, with two dedicated members braving the icy ascent.

As we move into spring, PNOA has more exciting events lined up, including hiking, cycling, paddling, water sports, trainings and backpacking adventures. Keep an eye on our event calendar and join us for another season of outdoor fun!

2025 年第一季度即将结束,我们想向所有参与我们冬季和早春探险活动的会员致以诚挚的谢意。从激动人心的滑雪之旅到充满挑战的雪鞋徒步,甚至包括我们的年度会员大会 (AGM),第一季度的活动充满了友情、技能提升和难忘的体验。

以下是我们 2025 年 1 月至 3 月活动的回顾:

2025 年 1 月

1 月 1 日 – 海上至山顶徒步

新年伊始,十位会员组成的团队在 Paul 的带领下,挑战了海上至山顶步道。这条步道充满挑战,但收获颇丰,沿途还能欣赏到壮丽的海岸风光。这绝对是开启 2025 年活力四射的绝佳方式!

1月5日 – 鹰崖雪鞋健行

12位参与者在White Water的带领下,在鹰崖雪鞋健行中度过了美好的一天,欣赏了温哥华、豪湾及周边地区的壮丽景色。

1月11日 – 急救和心肺复苏术培训

PNOA为Victor Guo带领的10位成员举办了一场急救和心肺复苏术实践培训课程。学习基本的救生技能对于我们的户外探险至关重要,我们感谢大家对安全的重视。

1月12日 – 圣马克峰冬季徒步

尽管天气寒冷、积雪深厚,六位成员在Jane Zhao和Angela Zhang的带领下,成功登顶圣马克峰。晴朗的天空为周围群山的壮丽景色增添了无限可能。

1月18日至26日 – 多个度假村滑雪之旅

这是我们本季最期待的旅行之一!为期九天的探险之旅带领十八位 PNOA 会员前往多个滑雪胜地,尽情享受新鲜的粉雪、刺激的雪道以及滑雪后的休闲时光。感谢我们的领队 Timothy 和 Lisa,让这次体验更加顺畅!

1 月 19 日 – 贝克山小屋和雪鞋健行

五位会员开启了为期两天的贝克山探险之旅,在舒适的小屋过夜后,由 White Water 团队带领,体验了激动人心的雪鞋健行。

1 月 25 日 – 圣马克峰顶徒步

七位探险者重返圣马克峰顶,再次进行冬季攀登,充分利用了清爽晴朗的天气。

2025 年 2 月

2 月 2 日 – 年度会员大会 (AGM)

我们的年度会员大会取得了巨大成功,44 位会员出席了会议,共同探讨俱乐部目标、即将举行的活动以及社区倡议。感谢所有为此做出贡献的会员!

2月8日 – 利特尔峰雪鞋健行

三位热爱冒险的会员挑战利特尔峰,勇敢攀登陡峭的山峰和厚厚的积雪,享受了一次难忘的野外体验。

2月15日 – 雪崩技能培训 (AST1)

在野外,安全至关重要!多位会员参加了 AST1 认证培训,学习了基本的雪崩意识和救援技巧。

2月15日至25日 – 日本白马谷滑雪和单板滑雪之旅

16位 PNOA 会员前往日本著名的白马谷,体验了为期十天的精彩滑雪和单板滑雪。从厚厚的粉雪到正宗的日本料理,这趟旅程令人难忘,感谢我们的领队 Timothy 和 Lisa。

2月26日 – 布伦瑞克山雪鞋健行

只有最坚定的徒步者才能在深冬的严寒中挑战布伦瑞克山。一位勇敢的参与者完成了这次充满挑战的徒步。

2025年3月

3月1日 – 龙舟赛

随着天气转暖,18位会员齐聚一堂,参加了一场激动人心的龙舟赛。这真是从冬季运动过渡到水上运动的绝佳方式!

3月2日 – 布伦瑞克山雪鞋健行(再次!)

布伦瑞克山迎来了又一次冬季挑战,两位敬业的会员勇敢地攀登了冰雪覆盖的山峰。

随着春季的到来,PNOA 准备了更多精彩活动,包括徒步,骑行,划桨、水上活动,培训和背包探险。请关注我们的活动日历,加入我们,享受又一个户外乐趣的季节!

    Mt Seymour 雪地野营

    今年冬天是一个暖冬,迟迟未能降雪。户外朋友圈里都在讨论着如何退滑雪季票,很理直气壮的理由:因病要求退票!什么病?没雪滑抑郁了,这必须算病啊。。。😂😂 新年的第一个周末,今冬的初雪终于姗姗来迟。一夜之间青山白头,立刻点燃了温村无数雪友的激情。于是乎全城沸腾,有人携板执杖,驰骋雪道;有人呼朋唤友,踏雪登高;还有少数几位和我们一样,背起沉甸甸的背包,去雪地野营,看日落日出,享彻夜逍遥。 雪地野营于我们而言是第一次,领导听说之后也兴致盎然的表示要”参加“。这个”参加“的意思就是领导会亲自上山住帐篷里,而我则需要兼职挑夫,背着双份的地垫睡袋和各类补给上山😂😂。好在路途不远,上山途中更有美景随处可见,赏心悦目。有蔚蓝天空下的雪压青松,有白云环绕着的远山如黛,还有落日余晖在雪堆上映射出的点点如金沙闪烁。 就这样一行五人轻松惬意的边走边赏,悠哉悠哉的来到野营地。此时正好是日落时分,落日、晚霞、雪山、云海,还有日落之后粉色和蓝色的辉光云霞(alpenglow),一切美景都如同想象中的梦幻、温暖且美好。 太阳彻底下山之后,我们就开始平整雪地,搭设帐篷。然后挖坑做饭,煮雪烹茶。山友老胡还特意带了红酒为大家佐餐,我们则奉献了自制的牛肉干。坐在雪地上,抬头可见满天繁星,清冷月牙,俯首遥看万家灯光,烟火尘世。四周美得寂静,也美得令人恍惚。 上山一次不容易,我们的计划中不仅仅第一晚要看日落,还有第二天早上的日出。次日清晨的山顶,雾气渐渐弥漫起来,逐渐将四周的山头都藏匿其中。就在我们低声叹息以为无缘日出的时候,大自然给我们展现了另外一种朦胧的日出之美。太阳升起时的霞光穿透雾气,时隐时现。在不断流动、瞬息万变的雾气中,忽而看云海翻滚可见粉色朝霞,忽而有山林浮现如同海市蜃楼。我们就一直沉浸在不断的惊喜之中,感叹着造化的神奇。 日落日出都如愿欣赏到了。在日落与日出之间则是寂冷的夜。哪怕有最美味的红酒,最滚烫的姜茶,最飘香的乌龙,和最温暖的咖啡,也还是挡不住大自然无言的高冷。冷就一个字,辗转千万次。零下九度的清冷月夜,山顶万籁俱寂,微风无雪,即使全副武装也无法在帐篷外多待片刻。只能早早钻入睡袋,反复拷问着身为雪地野营小白的自己:“能熬过今晚吗?”,最后才沉沉睡去。当清晨泠冽的空气把我唤醒时,我第一个念头就是“自然很美好,生活很美好!”🤣🤣 部分照片 credit to PNOA:Gloria,花花,老胡

    共同骑行,点亮希望——PNOA GCC 2024队伍的卓越成就

    在2024年的Great Cycle Challenge活动中,PNOA GCC 2024队伍取得了令人瞩目的成就。我们设定了5000公里的骑行目标,结果总骑行距离达到了惊人的9621公里,几乎是原计划的两倍。此外,我们的募捐目标同样是5000元,最终筹集到了8579元善款,这笔款项将用于支持SickKids基金会,帮助儿童癌症的研究和治疗。 今年,共有17名队员参与了这项挑战,其中有8名队员是第一次参与。特别值得一提的是,我们队伍中最年轻的成员——8岁的Zoe和5岁的Avi姐弟俩。Zoe在第二年参加挑战,骑行了554.1公里,募捐了1507元善款。弟弟Avi首次参与,完成了82公里的骑行,并筹集了306元。他们的勇气和努力深深激励了其他队员,展现了年轻一代的无限潜力。 同时,团队中的资深骑手老齐更是发挥了重要作用,他独自骑行了2850.9公里,为团队的成功贡献了巨大力量。他的坚持和毅力为所有队员树立了榜样,激励着大家共同追求目标。 通过这次挑战,PNOA GCC 2024队伍不仅在骑行和募捐上超越了预期,更重要的是提高了社会对儿童癌症的关注。我们明白,每一位队员的努力都在为那些需要帮助的孩子们点燃希望之光。 展望未来,我们将继续参加明年的挑战,为更多的孩子们贡献力量,再创佳绩!
