Safety on Water Workshop Recap – November 3, 2024

Thank you to everyone who joined PNOA’s Third Outdoor Safety Workshop, held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Elgin Hall! We were thrilled to welcome more than 48 participants who came to learn and enhance their knowledge of water safety and paddling essentials.

Our lineup of expert speakers made this event both informative and engaging. Tony, a senior leader from South Surrey Scouts, kicked off with an introduction to Marine Search and Rescue skills. His insights highlighted crucial techniques for water rescues and emphasized emergency procedures. Following Tony, Suzey delivered a comprehensive session on Safe Boating Basics, covering key principles of safe navigation, essential equipment, and the importance of preparedness on the water.

The day continued with an interactive demonstration by Maddie and Kelvin, who showcased personal paddling gear, giving attendees a hands-on look at essential equipment. Brent, a Level 2 Kayaking Instructor, then took the stage to present a detailed talk on paddling equipment, safety gear, and techniques. His demo offered valuable knowledge for kayakers of all levels.

During the break, attendees enjoyed games and a bit of friendly competition, led by Shirley. Thanks to Jason for sponsoring the delicious Thai food, which was a hit and kept everyone fueled for the remainder of the workshop.

Overall, it was a day packed with valuable learning, camaraderie, and fun. We’re grateful to all who attended and to our wonderful speakers for their time and expertise. We look forward to more events like this that bring our community together to learn, connect, and stay safe outdoors!

Great Cycle Challenge!
