Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival on the Waters of False Creek

Hosted by RDBS, LAPOWER, and PNOA
September 15, 2024

This past Sunday, September 15, 2024, False Creek was alive with energy and excitement as the Richmond Dragon Boat Society (RDBS), LAPOWER, and the Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) came together to host a special dragon boat event in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

A Day of Paddling, Festivities, and Community
Under the bright early autumn sky, participants gathered at False Creek to paddle together, share festive dishes, and embrace the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The event brought together people of all ages and backgrounds, from seasoned paddlers to first-time dragon boaters, all united by a love for outdoor activities and a passion for community bonding.

Dragon Boat Racing Thrills
The dragon boat races were the heart of the event. Teams raced across the shimmering waters, their paddles cutting through the waves in perfect harmony. Whether racing to win or simply enjoying the thrill of being on the water, every participant felt the exhilaration of teamwork and the joy of paddling together.

A Taste of the Mid-Autumn Festival
After the races, everyone gathered on the shores to enjoy a festive potluck. Delicious homemade dishes were shared, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Mooncakes, fresh fruit, and savory treats filled the tables as friends, family, and fellow paddlers enjoyed the feast.

Supporting a Great Cause
Not only was this event a celebration of culture and sport, but it also carried a meaningful purpose. The proceeds from the event went towards supporting the youth dragon boat team, helping fund scholarships and training for the next generation of paddlers. By participating, everyone played a part in nurturing the future of this exhilarating sport.

Looking Ahead
The dragon boat event was a beautiful way to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival, bringing the community together in the spirit of health, friendship, and cultural celebration. As we reflect on the memories of paddling, laughter, and shared meals, we look forward to future events that continue to foster connections both on and off the water.

A big thank you to all the organizers, volunteers, and participants who made this event a success! We can’t wait for next year’s celebration.

Suzey…
