PNOA Participates in BC Parks “Learn to Be in Nature” 2026

Helping More People Enjoy the Outdoors Safely

July 25, 2026

Despite cool temperatures and steady rain, the enthusiasm of volunteers and visitors never faded! PNOA was honoured to participate in the BC Parks “Learn to Be in Nature” (LTBIN) event for the second consecutive year, helping newcomers and refugees learn how to enjoy British Columbia’s incredible outdoors in a safer, more confident way.

Our mission is to promote safe, inclusive, and enjoyable outdoor recreation while building a stronger outdoor community. Throughout the day, our volunteers introduced visitors to the many activities PNOA organizes and shared practical outdoor safety knowledge.

Our Featured Outdoor Activities

This year’s exhibit highlighted four of PNOA’s core outdoor programs:

Hiking

  • Essential hiking equipment
  • Trip planning
  • The 10 Essentials
  • Trail safety and Leave No Trace principles

Skiing & Snowboarding

  • Beginner to advanced programs
  • Ski touring and backcountry awareness
  • Essential winter equipment
  • Avalanche safety awareness

Cycling

  • Recreational and long-distance cycling
  • Bike safety
  • Recommended equipment

Water Sports (Stand-Up Paddleboarding)

  • Basic SUP equipment
  • Personal flotation devices (PFDs)
  • Water safety and trip preparation

Throughout the day, visitors had opportunities to ask questions, examine outdoor gear, and learn how to prepare for adventures in British Columbia safely and responsibly.

A very special thank you to Li Wan, who continued helping lead and set up the event while still recovering from an injury. Your dedication truly inspires us all.

Another special thanks goes to Michael, who rode his bicycle all the way from Richmond to Cypress despite the cold and rainy weather. Your commitment and passion embody the true spirit of outdoor adventure.

Although the weather was cool and rainy, everyone remained enthusiastic, visitors were engaged, and our volunteers finished the day with smiles and a strong sense of accomplishment.

Every event teaches us something new, and we’ll continue learning from this year’s experience to make next year’s event even better.

Thank you to BC Parks for inviting PNOA to participate once again. We look forward to continuing our partnership to encourage more people to explore nature safely and confidently.

虽然当天气温偏低并持续下着雨,但丝毫没有影响志愿者与参加者的热情!PNOA 很荣幸连续第二年受邀参加 BC Parks「Learn to Be in Nature(LTBIN)」活动,向大温地区的新移民及难民推广户外安全知识,帮助更多人以更安全、更有信心的方式享受卑诗省美丽的大自然。

PNOA 始终秉持着推广安全、包容及快乐户外活动的使命,希望透过教育与分享,让更多不同背景的朋友认识户外运动、培养正确观念,并建立健康积极的户外生活方式。

特别感谢 老万(Li Wan),虽然仍在伤后恢复期间,依然坚持协助活动筹备及现场布置,充分展现了 PNOA 志愿服务的精神。

同时也特别感谢 Michael,当天虽然天气寒冷又下着雨,他仍坚持从 Richmond 骑自行车到 Cypress 参加活动,这份热爱户外、坚持不懈的精神令人敬佩。

虽然天气凉爽并伴随着雨势,但大家始终保持热情,与现场民众积极交流,活动圆满完成,每位志愿者都带着满满的成就感结束了一天的服务。

每一次活动都是一次学习与成长,我们将总结今年的经验,继续优化活动内容,期待明年带来更丰富、更精彩的展示。

    BC省对冬季车胎要求简介

    根据BC省政府的规定,冬季开车前往大温地区以外大部分地方(除了往南去美国,但是华盛顿州有些地方对车胎、甚至雪链也是有要求的),所驾驶的汽车至少需要安装有冬季胎(Winter Tire),最好有雪胎(Snow Tire)。以下是省政府关于这个规定的网站: Designated Winter Tire & Chain Routes Passenger Vehicle – Tire and Chain Requirements 什么是冬季胎?根据省政府的规定,冬季胎是有M+S标志、且胎纹深度不少于3.5毫米的四季胎。 什么是雪胎?雪胎就是车胎上有雪花标志的车胎。 不合格的车胎包括:1)没有M+S标志的四季胎2)有M+S标志、但胎纹深度少于3.5毫米的四季胎3)老旧的车胎,包括老旧的雪胎 如何测量胎纹深度?以下有一篇短文和一个短视频可以参考: How do you measure tread depth on your tires? 大温地区附近雪场对车胎的要求:去Grouse Mountain没有对车胎的要求,但去Cypress Mountain、Mt. Seymour以及Whistler都要求至少有冬季胎(有M+S标志的四季胎、且胎纹深度不能少于3.5毫米),当然如果是有雪花标志的雪胎就更好。

    碎片群岛(Broken Group Islands Unit)属于太平洋海岸国家公园 (Pacific Rim National Park Reserve),位于温哥华岛的西边,  被誉为划船者的天堂,  这是一片美丽而狂野的海岸雨林. 虽然公园的大部分地区都受到太平洋巨浪无遮挡的冲击,但碎片群岛却是例外, 该水域大部分时间风平浪静, 适合皮划艇运动初学者。虽然横穿海峡航道时,可能会遇到一些翻滚的海浪或白浪,但小心一点划,也不会有什么大问题。真正的新手可以请租船公司直接连人带船把你运到平静的水域再开始划. 我们在出发前做了充分的训练, 有能力抗拒风浪, 自然是全程划过去. 你可能会问,为什么要大老远跑去碎片群岛划船?为了体验遥远的西海岸的全貌:迷雾朦胧的海岸线, 阳光普照的寂静森林, 令人无法抗拒的海风, 宁静的海湾, 白色的沙滩, 碧绿清澈的海水, 还有水下摇曳生姿的水下植物,   簇拥在橙色和紫色海星周围的绿色海葵,停满了海鸥的礁石, 笨笨的海蛳, 紧紧依附在险峻的悬崖上的古树,就像一座座精心设计好的形态各异的盆景园,小鹿安静的吃草, 老鹰在头顶飞翔. 在这个世界的角落, 这么雄伟壮观的景色, 只有身临其境才能尽情感受。 像这么好的地方自然是热门景点, 行程都是要提前几个月预定好. 天气情况就只能听天由命了. 我们这次出行由PNOA经验丰富的Suzey 策划领队. 并邀请到专业搜救队员Andrew, 一个非常热心的白人小伙, 以及童子军资深领队Maddie 护航. 我们就没有什么需要操心的. 除了为皮划艇的防水舱小, 装不下太多食物而发愁. 因为岛上没有淡水, 五天的用水都需要自己带过去.  第一天, 8月25号, 晴 从温哥华出发, 乘中午的轮渡到Nanaimo 后又开了三个半小时, 才到达离Ucluelet 镇不远的秘密海滩营地.  Suzey…
