PNOA Hiking Adventure – Unnecessary Mountain via Saint Marks Summit

June 27, 2026

On June 27, fourteen PNOA hikers took on the challenging Unnecessary Mountain via Saint Marks Summit trail, led by Yuki and Li Wan.

This demanding day hike covered over 18 km with approximately 1,250 metres of elevation gain. The day began under cloudy skies, providing cool and comfortable hiking conditions. As we progressed, the sun gradually broke through the clouds, rewarding us with spectacular views of Howe Sound and the surrounding coastal mountains.

The trail was wet, rooty, steep, and full of constant ups and downs, requiring careful footing and steady determination. After reaching Saint Marks Summit, the route toward Unnecessary Mountain became even more technical and physically demanding. Despite the challenges, everyone maintained a positive attitude, supported one another throughout the day, and celebrated together upon reaching the destination. The breathtaking scenery and shared sense of accomplishment made every step worthwhile.

A special thank you to Li Wan, who generously volunteered to lead this difficult hike while still recovering from an injury. Your dedication, strength, and commitment are truly appreciated.

We would also like to thank every participant for looking out for one another, offering encouragement, and helping create a safe, supportive, and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the hike. It is this spirit of teamwork that makes PNOA events so special.

Hiking Tips

  • Dress in layers to adapt to changing mountain weather.
  • Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip.
  • Bring hiking poles for stability on steep and rooty terrain.
  • Carry plenty of water and extra snacks to stay energized.

Every challenging trail teaches us something new—not only about the mountains, but also about ourselves. Thank you to everyone for another memorable adventure, and we look forward to seeing you on the next PNOA hike!

We are the Champion, My Friend! And we’ll keep on fighting till the end!
