PNOA Newsletter Q3 2023

Hello fellow outdoor enthusiasts:

We had a busy and wonderful summer. Here is a chronicle of our adventures. For those members who missed them make sure you come out and participate in future adventures. The more, the merrier. Plus we all improve our health and our abilities.

Summer Recap

Kayak training was held at Crescent Beach in sunny South Surrey. The group learned how to right a boat after a spill, paddle properly and rescue fellow kayakers. After the lessons we followed up with two kayak day trips along the coastline from White Rock Beach to Crescent Beach as well as a multiple-day trip to Indian Arm and Indian River. Thank you to Suzey and Hugh for organizing these events.

We did preparatory backpacking trips to Joffre Lake, Elfin Lake, Garibaldi Lake, Whistler Kees and Claire Hut. We did these with the thought of doing arduous, dangerous, and spectacular hikes later in the Summer.

When we felt prepared and knew we had the skills to survive in the wilderness. No phone reception, no internet and no electricity, we did longer and more adventurous multiple-day trips to Rockwall in Kootenay National Park and Rainbow Range in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. Wow, so spectacular! Please see the blogs below.

We did Icefield Parkway Cycling with Timothy and Li. We also participated in the Great Cycle Challenge raising money to fight Cancer in Children. Please take a look at the following story:

To wrap the year up we did a day of shoreline cleanup. We enjoy the outdoors and we should do our part to make it more enjoyable for everyone that uses it.

Great Cycle Challenge!
