Great Cycle Challenge!

我们还庆祝了温馨时刻,比如Garron家族在“Kick Cancer’s Butt日”匹配捐赠,为骑手如 Timothy(578.41 加元)、Yi Yan(533.83 加元)和 Zoe Ren(345.92 加元)提升了总额。

PNOA GCC 2025

PNOA Team Pedals to Victory: Crushing the 2025 Great Cycle Challenge Canada!

As the leaves turn golden in the Pacific Northwest, we’re thrilled to reflect on an unforgettable summer of sweat, solidarity, and significant impact. The Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) GCC 2025 Team just wrapped up our participation in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada—a nationwide August extravaganza where cyclists of all ages hit the roads (and trails) to raise funds for childhood cancer research. This year, our dedicated crew of 17 riders turned the pedals with purpose, smashing goals and proving that together, we can make a real difference in the fight against kids’ cancer.

Exceeding Expectations: A Milestone Ride

From day one, the PNOA team set ambitious targets to fuel hope and healing through the SickKids Foundation. Our fundraising goal? $5,000. What did we achieve? A whopping $8,694.59 raised—nearly double our target! Every dollar counts toward innovative treatments and a cure, supporting the heartbreaking reality that cancer claims more young lives in Canada than any other disease, with over 1,700 kids diagnosed each year.

On the biking front, we aimed for 5,000 kilometers collectively. The team roared past that with 7,746 km ridden across 223 exhilarating rides. That’s enough distance to cycle from Vancouver to Toronto and back—twice! Nationally, we ranked an impressive 51st out of hundreds of teams, and 22nd in our category, showcasing the grit and community spirit that defines PNOA.

Spotlight on Our Star Riders

What makes this challenge truly special are the stories behind the stats. Our team brought fresh energy with 6 first-time members, including standouts like Laura, who conquered 448.8 km and raised $547, and Lisa, powering through 538.9 km to bring in $673. These newcomers dove in headfirst, inspiring us all with their enthusiasm.

Shoutout to our youngest adventurers—Avi, our 6-year-old dynamo who pedaled an astonishing 326.5 km and raised $880, and 8-year-old Joe, who logged 609.7 km while matching Avi’s fundraising haul of $880. Their tiny wheels spun big dreams, reminding us that heroism comes in all sizes.

For endurance royalty, Douglas Qi claimed the crown for the longest ride at 2,345 km—a testament to unwavering commitment. And let’s not forget Timothy, our veteran with 10 years of consecutive participation. Timothy’s leadership has been the heartbeat of the team, rallying us through every hill and headwind.

We also celebrated heartwarming moments like the Garron family’s matched donations on Kick Cancer’s Butt Day, boosting totals for riders like Timothy Chen ($578.41), Yi Yan ($533.83), and Zoe Ren ($345.92). Encouraging notes from supporters, such as “Pedal to the metal 🚵‍♀️” and “Good job on cycling and helping sick children,” kept our spirits high.

A Heartfelt Thank You

None of this would be possible without the incredible support from our warm-hearted sponsors, riders, and cheerleaders. To our generous donors who believed in our cause—from corporate matches to personal gifts—thank you for turning compassion into action. To our riders, who braved rain-soaked routes and family cheers alike, your dedication moved mountains (and kilometers). And to every supporter sharing our story, liking our updates, or simply believing in a cancer-free future for kids—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You’ve helped us not just meet goals, but exceed them, funding vital research that saves little lives.

Pedaling Forward: Join the Journey Next Year

The 2025 Great Cycle Challenge may be in the rearview, but the momentum rolls on. With over $24 million raised nationwide since 2015, events like ours are closing in on a world where no child battles cancer. If you’re inspired (and we hope you are!), mark your calendar for August 2026. Whether you’re a newbie on two wheels or a seasoned spinner, join us at PNOA’s team page to sign up, donate, or spread the word.

Here’s to more miles, more miracles, and a healthier tomorrow. What’s your next adventure? Let’s ride for the kids!

How do you measure tread depth on your tires?
