PNOA Iceberg Lake via 19 Mile Creek Trail Day Hike

Led by Victor Guo, with Roy and Patrick assisting, a group of 16 participants joined this memorable adventure to Iceberg Lake via the 19 Mile Creek Trail.
This out-and-back route covered approximately 18.5 km with around 1000 meters of elevation gain. According to AllTrails, this is considered a hard trail that offers an intense mountain hiking experience, featuring long steady inclines through beautiful forest terrain, mixed with occasional flat sections for recovery. Along the way, hikers crossed numerous wooden bridges and creek crossings, passing gorgeous waterfalls, giant Devil’s Club plants, mushrooms of every size and colour, and signs of wildlife throughout the trail.
The weather kept changing throughout the day — cloudy skies, periodic rain, and even moments of sunlight breaking through the mountains. Despite the unpredictable conditions, everyone stayed positive, supported one another, and shared plenty of laughter along the way.
Many participants had visited Iceberg Lake during the summer before, but only a few had experienced it with snow. Snow began appearing around the tree line, where microspikes became very helpful for safer footing. Iceberg Lake itself was especially unique and stunning under the snow-covered landscape. Although the scenery was breathtaking, the cold wind beside the lake made photo-taking quite a chilly experience!
This hike also reminded us to respect changing mountain conditions. Due to the soft snowpack, hikers needed to stay aware of possible hollow spaces hidden underneath the snow while walking along certain sections of the trail.
Tips for future hikers:
• Bring extra warm clothing and waterproof layers for rapidly changing weather conditions.
• Microspikes are highly recommended once snow begins near the tree line.
• Be cautious when walking on soft snow surfaces due to possible hidden gaps underneath.
After completing the hike, everyone happily rewarded themselves with ice cream — the perfect ending to a cold but unforgettable adventure.
Beyond the snow and rain, we found another beautiful mountain memory together.
